power from 2001 ss ls1 heads
power from 2001 ss ls1 heads i currently have 99 c5 with lg lt's, vortex intake, ported tb, 180 thermo, i have a buddy who is selling a set of 2001 ss ls1 heads stock. will these bolt on to my car i was goin to have them sent off to cartek for stg2 job. anybody know around how much they charge to do stg2 heads if i supply the heads. i want to be around 425 rwhp 400 rwtq or near that mark. i priced a cam with a set of afr 205's and it is a little more than i want to spend. my 1/4 mile goal is 11.8 or better if that can be done with stg 2 head cam packg from cartek. i feel i can save money by picking these up from my buddy instead of buying ls6 or afr's. just looking for some help or advice thanks guys p.s i know people say saving money and going fast are not in the same vocabulary but there has to be a medium.

I say, do it right the first time and be done with it. Having the LS1 heads ported will likely cost you as much or more than a comparable set of ported LS6 heads. Call around and check. Also, you have the same heads on your Vette. Probably 853 castings compared to 241 castings on the SS he is selling. No measureable difference between the two heads. You could have your own heads ported, too.
