Default bobweight?

so my pistons have a 4 gram spread and my h-beam rods have a six gram spread. my machinist was telling me theres not enough material to pull from the rods or pistons to get them in tolerance so he suggested using AN washers on the rod bolts. this sounds kind of weird to me so maybe some of you guys have heard of this. should i just go ahead and do this or should i buy another set of rods? any actuall engine builders that have heard or done of this?
