Default Video: Coolant leaking from Header Bolts

http://ccstreetscene.com/multimedia/.../leakyhead.wmv

I pulled my headers today, and the driver side started leaking a pretty good amount of antifreeze out from the header bolt holes. In the video, I had my dad squeeze the coolant line so you could see it coming out. The engine is a 6.0L LQ4 with stock #317 6.0L heads.

Its just leaking from 3 center holes...

What would cause somthing like that?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I've seen this before from a set of 243's. It's caused from the bolt holes being drilled to deep which enters the cooling passage. Shouldn't cause any problems as long as the bolts are in. It sure makes a mess though when you take the bolts out. We ran a car for two seasons without any leaks.

BB mopars have open holes for their exhaust bolts.. we used to just use some teflon tape.. no leaks and not a problem.. i wouldn't worry bout it

Default 317 heads

I have repaired numerous broken exhaust manifold bolts on the trucks. Some I have had to drill out, in doing so, went a little deep, and broke through into the coolant passage. Liquid teflon on the bolt and back into service. Never seen a problem with it. And believe me if there was a problem I would hear about it.

Don't waste your time on it, there is no fix - short of welding up the hole and redrilling and tapping it or replacing the head.

id put some teflon on it like stated and look into some nice header bolts that will lock or something to make sure you wont have any leaks

Liquid teflon, silicone, 3M wetherstrip adhesive, any of those will solve your problem. It is not uncommon to have threaded holes that screw into waterjackets. Hell, all of the oem small block chevy headbolts do.
