Symtoms:

Trans went out. Day before taking it to the trans shop, problem started.
Before taking it to the shop, had to get to work @3800rpm for sustained time.
Stock valvetrain.
Car runs rough at anything greater than idle. Sometimes at idle, too.
Not plugs, wires or coilpacks because when switched, stayed in problem cylinder. Also, random on one or two other cylinders.

My guess is a broken spring. Does this sound familiar to anyone else? Also, when checking springs, can you reuse the valve cover gaskets or do you have to replace them?

If it is a broken spring, unplanned heads/cam swap is on the way.....

 

It takes about 10 minutes to pull a valve cover, pull it and check it out.

 

I would bet pushrod failure before I would go with a broken spring on the stock valvetrain. It could also be a bad injector or any other thing you haven't bothered to investigate. Why don't you just get a 10 mm socket and find out in 10 minutes as WickedSix98 already pointed out?

So you have time to swap coils but can't pull the valve cover? Just do it man, **** the homeowners association. What's the worst that they're going to do, complain about it?

 

Tranny guys did the swapping at their shop, just picked it up today.

Just wanted to see if people with similar problems could agree/disagree with my guess of a spring. That and I don't have my tools with me. I agree, **** the HOA. I hate all HOA's, but right now, I have to behave because I'm surrounded by the three neighborhood narc's. They already ran out the drug dealers, not trying to have the loud cars household(us) kicked out next.
