You could drive it 1000 miles without the pushrod/injector/plugwire on and it would be fine.

I wasn't kidding, I just dont see the point when there are "safer" options out there. Damage or not, it's not worth it to ME, he asked what WE thought, and gave him my opinion.

If that lifter has no load it will not properly follow the cam lobe. If its not caught and held up by the holder it can come down on a cam thats spinning around quickly and can damage the lobe of the cam, or the lifter, maybe crack the lifter and have it come apart inside the motor. Would you want a lifter bouncing around on your cam? I sure wouldnt!
Predator has a very good point.

Yes and NASCAR engines get replaced after every race, so if some serious damage is done they don't give a **** as long as the car can still turn left.

Folks, the concern about the unloaded lifter smacking its lobe while the cam's spinning are valid.
I'd pay the $ to have a towtruck move the car.

That's the kind of thing you'd expect from someone who'd drive a minivan. Especially one making some kind of racket and he wants to drive it 8 hrs anyway. Part of the reason I try not to drive anywhere close to those damn things; figured out within acoupla weeks of their appearance in the early 80s, that a driver loses about 30 IQ points just stepping into one. God only knows what happens to people that are already as stooooopid as this one, posting stoooooopid Xler minivan questions on the LS1 forum. Is there such a thing as NEGATIVE IQ???
