Default 1998 engine questions/problems

i got a 98 camaro
blew the engine
so im searching for a shortblock or longblock.

question?

do i have to get another 98 engine? or i can get any other engine since im keeping my engine harness and computer?

can i use a 6.0 iron shortblock and just put fbody top parts and accessories?

Damn Isaac, sorry to hear about your engine. Is this a recent fade that a lot of guys are doing down here? You're the second guy I know that has blown his engine.

About re-using the computer, I have no idea. Good luck to ya, let me know if I can help out.

so can i use any 5.7 block (98-02) or 6.0 block? or im stuck getting a 98 AGAIN? i think i can use any block since im just getting the shortblock, correct?

yeah you can use any ls1 block 98-02. you can also get a 6.0 if you wish. the computer and wiring harness is compatible. but it you go ls2 you have to make simple changes to the wire harness to things like knock sensors and cam sensor! you just have to extend them.

all your parts should transfer over depending on the yr, if its an 04 or later i think it uses diff head bolts

Last year I put a new LS6 5.7L assembled block in my 98 PCM wired & controlled engine compartment. Everything is interchangeable. Only minor difference found was that I had to shim the power steering pump assembly out a bit (maybe (3/32") in order to align the belt to the pulley. Also, make damn sure that the dumbell shaped oil restrictor/seal is installed into the hole on the rear drivers side of the block (under the rear block cover).
