Default lifter problem ?

out of no where my engine has developed a decently loud ticking sound. never had any piston slap or oil consumption, so i removed the valve covers and noticed that on 3 of the rocker arms i can pull up on the front side (valve stem side) of the rocker arm about 1/4 inch, and can feel either the lifter moving or compressing. is this a sign of a bad lifter ?

Slow or fast ticking at idle? Miles on the engine? Internal mods, besides the cam? Lift on it?

Ticking on driver's side??

Edit... I didn't read all the way.. Sounds like you have a collapsed lifter.. Get a set of LS7's. They're the LS1 replacement lifter now. Cheap too.

When you attempt to pull up on the tip of the rocker, it should be rock hard, w/ LITTLE play.

check p-rods while there. I believe lifters should not be able to compress at all....
