I got my new head bolts and they all have a dab of what looks like red thread lockers on them. So my question is wether or not i need to add thread locker to the bolts or is whats on there good.

 

throw a little oil on the threads, and under the head of it and torque to spec.

 

You mean use actual oil, like 10w30? Or use some more thread locker on them.

 

I dont think I used oil on mine when I installed them. I could be wrong though. They have a special torquing process. It isnt just torque to so many foot #s. Its really a pain in the *** because it takes much more time. These dont need thread lock, trust me. They will be goodntite when its all said and done.

Yeah, i have the torque sequence from my book. Just wasnt sure about the thread locker. I cant see putting oil on the threads, because of some of it getting into the holes and possibly cracking the block because of the pressure, thats why i asked about that.

 

OIL is for lubrication of threads, that's it. i never like o run new bolts in dry.
