Default Lifter the weakest link???

So I find a lifter that took a dump on me...had to drop the engine and take the cam out to get what was left of the lifter out..
From my previous experience with the old 350s the pushrods and sometimes valves are the weakest link. meaning it will bend a pushrod right off... but here is my lifter pic, ruined all my lifters chewed my cam to bits... sad sad story...
I'm just curious what you guys think and is there that many alternatives to lifters???
