I have a guy that is going to port a set of heads for me. I just need to know what would be the best ones to start with.

Depends what you want. 5.3 truck heads will have smaller chambers to raise compression, the 6.0L truck heads have larger chambers to lower compression and share the same port as the LS6, and the LS6 has the ideal port while keeping compression about the same depending on what engine your starting off with. Ported LS1 heads are a good bang for the buck as long the head porter is competent.
