Noise from head...
Noise from head... I got the motor in today and was getting ready to do final assembly today and get running again, but I decided to spin the motor over by hand a few more times for good measure. All of the valves were making their standard light popping open noise (no plugs in the motor), but the #1 exhaust valve seemed to be making a louder clacking noise. I pulled the rocker off of that valve and the noise went away. Checked rocker and pushrod, both look fine. Tried an alternate rocker/pushrod, same noise. Now, the motor has no oil in it and hasn't had oil in many months. Same deal with the lifters. If I spin the motor over slowly, it will not make the noise... it only does it when I am spinning it quickly. Is it possible that I am hearing something just sticking from lack of oil? Or is something wrong? The heads were brand new castings with new valves, porting, and springs. I don't see anything visually wrong with the valve or spring on top and it feels fine if I stick my finger in the exhaust hole. Any ideas? As much as I don't want to pull the head back off, I'd rather do that than fubar another motor today. ;-)
