Question Need to double check a part before ordering...

are these the correct springs that some have mentioned are good replacements for the COMP 918's?

I feel MUCH more comfortable running these, and I dont have to go to a dual spring which would be overkill for my 224 cam...

They say thats the right spring, but the seat pressure is kind of low for my tastes, but I don't know what kind of spring pressure LS1's need compared to LT1's. I need 145lbs on the seat for my cam to keep the valves from bouncing on the seat. That link I gave you in your other thread, those were actually 918's, that place used to make the 918's for comp until they switched suppliers, and now all the sudden with the new supplier the comp 918's breaking.

That sucks to hear about the new 918's cause i have been very pleased with my old ones.
Hell i have at least 25xxx miles on them been on the car for 5 years.
But i do run a very small cam.

it just worries me...we are doing some work on a buddies car, and I WOULD NEVER FORGIVE MYSELF if a spring broke and a valve dropped!

The seat pressure does look a little light, more like it would be good on a flat tappet cam. I'd think you'd want to be ~130lbs. It says they're good for .625" lift, you could always shim em a little if you're not running a huge cam. The Isky's do have more pressure over the nose than the Comps.

how do you shim springs, is it hard, what does it accomplish?

Should I just go with the comps? I REALLY DO NOT WANT TO btw..

And I thought about dual golds, but, they create too much weight on the valvetrain with a small 224, and the seats have to be changed blabla....

UGHHHH why can't I just find a nice replacement..

A spring shim goes below the valve spring, usually used after a valve job has been done and the seats have been machined. They come in different thickneses and allow you to get the correct installed height of the valve spring. I think you can get them in .030", so that would increase the seat pressure and the spring would still be good up to .595" lift. FWIW, Comp 918's are good for .600" lift and are 130lbs at the seat. Just an idea, don't take my word as gospel.

yeah but they break ALL THE TIME apparently
Just makes me NERVOUS since it is not my car we are talking here...
