SDPC forged piston, ring, bearing kit? Honing block?
SDPC forged piston, ring, bearing kit? Honing block? I might end up just honing this block and putting some forged pistons in it. What do you think about this kit from SDPC? I would keep my stock crank and rods for now. http://www.sdparts.com/catalog/lsgen...gradeKits.aspx
I might get away w/ a .0025 hone, to bring it to 3.9005. If I can do this will a 3.898 piston still fit properly? I assume I would just need to file fit the rings for it.

Most forged piston manufacturers suggest about .004" piston-wall clearance for automotive engines, and they usually have the clearance already there by cutting the pistons that much smaller.
Putting a piston designed for a 3.898" bore into a 3.905" bore would mean you'd have about .011" clearance. I'm sure it'll run, but I wouldn't do it.

I just started driving my ride about 2 wks ago and i have that kit and it drives pretty good. I got the stock displacement size pistons and i had the block honed and cleaned up but im not sure how much over it was honed. The machinist mentioned that i was just barely in the parameters of making those pistons fit and said if it was honed anymore, he would have suggested to bore it to fit the 3.9's in there. He recommended getting file fit rings tho and dumping the rings that came with the kit and i did just that.... and i dont have any complaints so far.
That's what I would recommend if your just hell bent on using the 3.898", just bump the hone through removing as little material as possible, and the 3.898" kit would work just fine.
