Default 6.0 Liter LS1

Not sure if this is the correct section but I am looking for some info on the 6 liter iron block.

I know a lot of guys are using it for big bore builds but are the dimensions on the outside the same as the 5.7 LS1??

What is the difference between the two?

What is needed to make the 6 liter work like the 5.7?

I would love to use a 6 liter for my project car but want to make sure I am not buying something that wont work or will take $$$$$ to get to work.

Thanks
Mike

MTI is building me a 427 6.0 liter ironblock as we speak utilizing a bore of 4.060 and a 4.125 stroker crank=427cid.

The only one of two main differences is that the 6.0 liter is an ironblock (weighs about 80to100lbs more)than the 5.7 LS1 which as you know is an aluminum block.

Also, the second main difference is that the 6.0 liter uses the exact same size crank as the LS1 but has a modest larger bore size which i believe is 4.00. Most builders recommend boring out the 6.0 block safely to 4.030 no problem and match this with a 4.00 crank which yields i believe 408 cubes. With prof. sonic testing for cylinder wall thickness the bore can be safely bored out to max of 4.060, for all motor applications non F/I (which i am doing). Match a 4.125 crank to the 4.030 overbore and i believe you get the classic LS1 422 cid and with the smaller 4.030 overbore, you are good to go with a 250shot of N20 or other forced induction if that's your thing.

Other than those sig. differences everything on the 5.7LS1 block bolts 100% directly onto the 6.0 liter block and as the ironblock gives better strength/reliability and is cheaper than resleeving, is a VERY POPULAR choice for most on this board who want more cubes or super strokers.

That should be a good start for you and GOOD LUCK!
