Default Oil pressure sending unit... special tool needed?

Is there a special tool needed to change the oil pressure sending unit? I bought a 27mm deep socket but it is not quite deep enough. Any suggestions?

They do make a GM oil sender socket. I got one from the local O'Reileys. But a 1/2" drive deep socket should be long enough.

Thanks. I'll try there.

I bought the deepest socket I could find at Sears and it is still about an inch too short.

When I had to put my new sensor on I ended up taking off the lifter valley cover and using a wrench to tighten it

I wanted to try and avoid taking off the valley cover if I could. My car has been sitting at a friends house, in his garage, since Saturday.

I was just going to change the bad knock sensor but the sending unit broke while taking off the intake. I knew about them breaking and I was careful but it broke anyway. Not much you can do when it breaks before you are even able to get the intake out far enough to see the damn sensor.

BTW-to those who wash your engines... be careful to not let any water sit around the intake. Once I took the intake off, you could see where water had seeped under it and got to the front sensor. The front sensor was rusted. I made a new wiring harness and plugged everything back in and did the service bulletin. I hope this works.

felton316, thanks for the heads up. O'Reillys had the oil pressure sending unit socket.

Hopefully I'll get this changed and be this afternoon.
