Default Patriot 226 cam?

I am just curious why no one ever seems to recommend the patriot 226 cam? At alot lower cost of other cams it seems it would be a favorite...

I am mainly asking cause i (against advice) put a ls7 cam in my car... and it has to go and was looking at the 226... is the thing a giant turd or something?

I just saw that cam today, listed on there site, it looks like it would be a good mid-size street cam. I still have awhile to pick a cam, so maybe we will get some feedback.

im getting ready to order their valve spring kit, and their 226 cam looks to be a very nicely spec'd cam for a mild-medium street cam. I too would appreciate anyone that has had this cam, or seen it in a car. Power, performance, driveability?

I think that cam just sort of falls through the cracks.

A 224 cam is a nice daily driver that will pass emissions (with a 114 of course, close with a 112 LSA). At this point, the next step up for many people is a 228 cam. The Patriot 226 cam is ground with a 112 LSA, so chances are that it won't pass emissions, and if you're giving up on emissions, then why stop at 226?

Don't get me wrong, I think it would work well. I'm just saying that I can understand why it's not a really hot seller.

i think its a nice stout cam for a daily driver street car. i believe the specs are 226/585/112. they installed that cam and patriot heads in a mag a while back and it make over 400+rwhp.. also, there was a vid of 2 fbods going from a dig on the street. one had the 226 cam and the other was ms4, and that 226 cam put a couple cars on that ms4!!!

I got the 226 cam from Patriot, at the same time I got their heads with the package, dual springs etc.. was a very good deal, will put them on next month. I got some engine simulation software and used this to decide my cam. I wanted drivability as i do 10K miles per year, and use the car every day wanted power under the curve, also wanted something lopey, like an old school car, I know the 226 wont be a lumpy as can be, but I'm also hoping to get it through the emmisions, there ins't many degrees of overlap so fingers crossed. Anyway I plotted some graphs from this software, they many not be truely accurate, but gives a good idea of where I will loose and gain power. I dont loose much, but the power keeps on gaining over 4000 rpm.

Okay here comes the graphs.

Long Tube Headers, Corsa Cat Back Exhaust, F.A.S.T. Intake Manifold, Whisper Lid, Custom HP Tuners Tuning.
380bhp 400ft/lbs at the fly wheel

Same as above with Patriot LS6 Stage II Heads and 226/226-112 Camshaft. Loose a little power down bottom end, but more than makes up for it over 4000 RPM this car will come alive even more than before. 520bhp and 460ft/lbs at the fly wheel

So how do you guys think the 226 would compare to the TR224 on the Patriot heads?

I am looking for a cam that will match the Patriot heads the best..

Both the Patriot and the TR224 are great cams. Depending on what LSA and ICL the cam is ground on will make a slight difference. (As well as lobe type)

I would go with the PP cam with PP heads, they built them together as a combo.
