Starter locks up when hot. Yep, same ole GM ****. 60,000 on the clock and here goes the friggin' starter hanging. Let her sit and cool down and it starts fine. No solenoid clicking ... just the old proverbial starter-taking-a-****-syndrome. I was delightfully surprised. I was so used to old school monster heavy-*** starters and what a bitch it was to shim them up and seat 'em by yourself. Went out and looked at the TA today and wondered how such a tiny pencil-dicked starter could possibly turn over a 350 high-compression motor. Man how technology has come a long way!!!!
And the dealership wanted $358.00 with a 1 1/2 hour book time to replace ... with NO CORE return. Ordered one for overnight delivery for $174.00 ... yep ... same ******* delco-Remy Palladium starter the dealership sells. Saving well over $400.00 by buying/doing myself. This is un-******* real !!!!

So you went to the dealer after you knew what was wrong, right? So no BS diagnostic fees I hope.
Off topic, but ask the dealer how much for LS7 lifters. Not installed, just to buy. I think I was quoted 58 bucks a piece from the local dealer here. I laughed a bit and thanked him for his time

Back when I had a 1972 Grand Prix with a 455 CI motor, starters were HUGE and weighed like tons! I was expecting more than little tiny starter which I found on the car. When I found out how much the dealer wanted, I thought surely there had to be a better way. Bought the starter and had it on in less than 30 minutes ... savings > $540-$175 = $365 and I didn't lose my car for the day. I know dealerships have a lot of overhead, but, they sure overcharge like a bitch.
