Default rebuild LS1 vs switch to LS2

Can you share what u know about this pls.
My LS1 01 ss M6 has started burning oil 61000 miles, was always driven easybefore we bought, then we started driving harder near redline and then blue smoke.
Had comp checked was all 170 -175, cyl 5 had fouled plug with 180 psi.
Conclusion ? broken rings, bad valve seals?
If I pull engine to freshen many hours and I dont have proceedure, wonder what I'd do for more HP 400 be good, or transplant crate LS2, but will this work with what changes.
thks

rebuild is cheaper and easier...you can blow 400rwhp out of the water with the money it would cost you to buy and transplant an LS2

finding a teardown procedure for an LS1 just HAS GOT to be easier than adapting an LS2 to your engine bay and accessories...and tons cheaper than paying for some one to do it

I would buy a short block from a sponsor to put in, then tear down your old one or just sell it. There are some pretty good deals for shortblocks if you are wanting to stay around 400rwhp.

ask around and find if there is anyone around that is good or has done a rebuild of a ls1.

Those compression numbers don't look all that bad to be honest. What all is done to the car??? A true test is to do a leakdown while the motor is hot and see if you are loosing cylinder pressure. More than 10% tells me there's trouble. I'd do that before anything else. You got the car used, do you know the true history of the car??? 61k should be nothing, I'd be suspect.

Default LS1 to LS2 switch or rebuild, blue smoke

Thanks, I have most all receipts of car, even bill of sale, it was original owner and serviced at Clarlsville Maryland Chev dealer, maybe we over reved. I'm not a mechanic but doesn't seem to be seal problem, why just that cyl 5. The leakdown sounds like most accurate troubleshoot.
