Default Head Swap-Head Gasket ???

I did some searches but came up only with threads that were around 4 years old. Okay my question is I am getting ready to put on new heads. Is there a preferred type of head gasket to use? Can I get gaskets at AZ or Advance or O'Reilleys or just go to the dealer and buy stock style gaskets?

I did find that ARP head studs in 6 point is one of the better ways to go.

Thanks for any help that can be given.

Order Cometic MLS gaskets. You can get them from SDPC and they are a sponser of the board.

Cometic, GM MLS, or Fel Pro MLS seem to be the preferred gaskets. If you are staying with stock thickness, I recommend the GM MLS, they are more forgiving.

What is the stock thickness? Any reason to go with a thinner gasket on an otherwise stock motor? I may wind up adding a cam later.

Looks like I will be going with the GM brand of head gasket.

I am just gathering everything for when the time comes. I want to do it all at one time and be done with it. My motor is on the stand out in the garage and I have been wanting to go out there and do something to it. I have my heads, just not the cam yet. I thought I would pull the old heads and set the new ones up there.
