thin head gasket or shave heads?

I will be running a TR224 cam with stock LS6 heads with aftermarket springs. I am not sure if I should have the heads shaved a little bit or run thinner head gaskets. I don't want to have any piston to valve clearance issues at all. I would like to get a good headgasket that doesn't tend to leak (i know that has to do with the cleaning prep). What headgaskets would you recommend and how much should I shave off if any? thanks

I run .036 cometics on mine with pistons .008 out the hole, 222-226 cam . No ptv issues
even with my 1.75 rockers ,sets the squish band nice for wide tuning latitude. You have to remember these blocks grow a bunch when they warm up .010 or more.

I'd definitely go with the thinner gasket! Not only do you get that bump in compression for better power, but the tighter quench distance will help ward off some detonation issues down the road as well!

Well said sir...no such thing as too much HP...make all you can..to the OP I do not know if I would pull stock heads mill them and put them back on..if your going to pull the heads replace them with better heads..and if you decide to go ahead and mill the stock heads you do not have to worry about p to v clearance with the 224 cam..it is your duration not the lift that will determine you p to v clearance...I run TEA heads milled down to a 58 cc chamber and .040 cometic head gaskets for a good tight quench...no detonation problems with this setup...

Guys one day I plan on testing the power differences between milling & the thinner gasket just for fun. I can tell you the gasket is definately the best way to go for exactly the reasons Matt has already mentioned. Time will tell how much better.
