differences between stock bottom ends through the years
Is there any huge difference between the bottom ends of LS1s say between a 98 and 2000. I have a chance to buy a LS1(complete) from someone local that has 15k miles on it for $600, and i was going to do heads and cam on it while its out(maybe rod bolts too while its out),are there any disadvantages to using that bottom end VS. my bottom end that's in my car now with 84k miles. Also should i be leary of buying a used LS1? Thanks for your help and input.

Buy it, do the heads/cam/rod bolts and an intake, while you have the water pump off you'll have to replace the gaskets which (all together) makes up most of the differences. Earlier models also had different style valve cover bolts (perimeter vs center-bolt), and a different method of mounting the coil packs.

well i plan on changing the oil pump when i put the cam in,and i'll use my valve covers and coil packs off of my engine,i plan on going with PRC 5.3 Stage 2.5's and the MS3 or maybe i'll change the pistons while its out and go with a MS4,still have to get the engine first before i start figuring out what i'm going to do with it
