Default Thinking of going 408

I'm thinking of going 408. But I can't afford to change the cam/intake/heads right now. So I'd be on stage 2 243s, G5X3 cam, and an LS6 intake. I know it would choke it down badly, but how badly are we talking? Anybody have a setup like this? Or with a 383? Anybody want to add some helpful comments? All help appreciated.

I wouldn't waste my money on a 408 with that setup. I'd stick to stock cubes.

Okay, cool. So since I asked for helpful comments, help me out by explaining your thoughts on it. I'd seriously appreciate what evidence you have to make you say that, so that I can make an informed decision.

To maximize the benefits of the 408 a better flowing combination would help but it will still make more power than the stock displacement shortblock. The torque down low will be killer and it will make the most power the top end you have is capable of up top . I would do it and once you have enough cash it is as easy as a h/c 90/90 swap. But you will already have the motor. that is only my opinion and what I would do with my car. mario

I'll be doing something like this soon as my engine grenaded and I found an excellent deal on a semi complete 408.

not everybody has the money to drop 8k on a 550rwhp 408......in the mean time we have to do with what we can.
go with a 408, whenever you have extra cash put it away for the good heads and intake. alotta people think if you go stroker that you have to get the best combo for the most power, of course its easier said than done

That's exactly what I'm doing. Of course everyone wants to make the most power they can and buy all the nice stuff. For some of us though we can't afford it all at the same time. Like you said all of us can just go drop 8k on an engine. Get the 408 and enjoy the added power. Then when you get money for the other stuff upgrade it.

Sounds like a plan, fellas. Definitely a good plan. Heck, I already have a 4" Eagle crank. And an LS1 block that I think I'll sell and use the loot to buy an iron block. I could just sell my current heads and LS6 intake, then buy an L76/L92 setup.

that is what i was thinking.the l92/76 combo is very cheap and capable of some decent numbers with the right cam.

Oh, and how about Patriot Stage 3 truck heads instead of the L92's?
