My bet's on either he chews up the crank trying to monkey the balancer on w/ a bolt, or he'll actually get it started and it'll just fill the crankcase up w/ bearing shavings and lock up.
Then will follow the inevitable "ZOMG whys my engin not start???????????????"

crainholio do you have nothing better to do than plan out what might go wrong with this new motor? You havnt had a single good thing to say as far as I can remember, so could you please just shut the **** up?
Admit it, you crave attention. It's like oxygen to you. Soak up the bad with the good, or stop post-whoring.
Since I'm typing anyway, here's something helpful:
If you check the alignment between your crank and cam timing gears using a steel straight-edge, you'll probably find they're a smidge out of line. Easy mistake for a competent engine builder to make, which means in your case it's a sure thing.
If you didn't clean and Loctite the cam gear bolts, now is a great time to go back and re-do them. You'll be fixing the gear alignment on the crank gear end anyway.
Aligning the front & rear main oil seals without the J-tools is tough. The front can be done using the balancer and a good eye, the rear is not likely to happen. If your granddad just slaps on the seal carriers like he did on older SBCs it is a guaranteed leaker.
I still think that poor engine's fate was sealed the minute the heads went on, but what the hey.

The failure mode you called me out on will happen because he'll fudge up the oil pump and/or pickup and/or pan installation.
And as for you...no heads kinda means it was a short block, no?

the heads came with the motor but were sent to ARE to be inspected. so it was a lnogblock, but not re-assembled. as far as lining it up, I'll get some help. Everyone here seems to think I can't do a damn thing right, but I assure you I can. I amynot be a master engine builder, but I can do it, the same way you may not be able to do **** as far as body work but I can do things all day with it.
as far as the attention ***** thing, do I like *SOME* attention, sure. but yall keep on and on antagonizing me and when I say something back you say im an attention *****. so really, **** off. if you dont have anymore good input, dont post in my thead.
