Extra info;
Car is completely stock
Synthetic oil
Use premium unleaded
44k miles
BTW i was givin her hell on the trip
You can run a quart low without any problems. People race like that all the time. I have ran a quart low and nitrous'ed the crap out of my motor with the coolant temps normal after getting back to the pits. That is with no cooling fans installed.

2 quarts should not be a life-threatening problem just lugging it around but I wouldn't do it because you just lost a lot of heat removing capacity. The pickup will still be under oil though as long as you aren't at some weird angle. Did you notice intermediate oil pressure?

As for the residue, was it on the inside of the tips or outside only? I am begining to wonder if it is just road grime from gravel or road construction. If you had bad pistons rings you should surely notice smoke and it would still be smoking for awhile out of the exhuast when you turn it off.

Pull a couple plugs but I think you are in the clear especially if the residue is flaky or powdery. That would seem like gravel/road dust. ANY oil containinants would surely leave the residue moist with the accompaining, tell-all fragerance. No way it would all evapourate!

Oh well there is your problem, your using mobile 1. I have used that oil and hated it. Now i use ams oil and i burn about a half a quart every 1K miles. My car has about 106K and i beat the ***** out of it. Use better oil, just my 2 cents. On the white powder note, maybe check the coolant level.... If it is full i would say you have nothing to worry about...

Mobil 1 is some of the best oil out there... 85% of this board uses it... I wouldn't go to say so quick that Mobil 1 is his problem... It's been a proven oil for years, especially their Extended Performance line...

Mobie 1 here, never experience a problem! I like it. I will always run this or German Castrol.

Maybe a shot in the dark but maybe the vapor coming out of the motor on start up contained some raw fuel/oil and it settled there and eventually got baked on over time while driving.

Just food for thought.

I have similar deposits on my exhaust, but I live at seaside and mine is due to salt in air and condensed water. My deposits are not so pronounced though (lesser amount)
