Default Head Porting Questions

Does anyone have any helpful tips for porting a set of LS1 heads with the proper tools? Valve sizes, max port diameters, etc. I can get a set for dirt cheap and was thinking about putting them on my car.
Thanks
Ryan

i guess maximum sizes are 2.08 and 1.60 valves but you will need to install different seats for that. maximum valve sizes without changing the seats are i think 2.02, 1.57 valves. begin working at the bowels, you have to make the bowels as concentric as the valve seat for both intake and exhaust ports. remove material around the valve guide boss but there is a pump at the valve guide boss of the intake port at the fast wall side that should NOT be removed as i can guess just remove the other materials around the valve guide boss. also you will need to do some roof work just enough to match the opened up bowels. the port floor and the short side radius need some work on the LS1 heads where on LS6 heads they overcame this problem. for the fast wall ( the wall opposite to the pushrod wall) will need to be a straight shot into the bowel seat but try not to eat much from the ports side walls of the intake espesially the pushrod wall (low flow area). that what i could tell from picutres of ported 5.3 and 5.7 LS1 heads. some one might chime in to clarify more.

best bet is to send your heads to a porter or better yet TEA have them port it on the cnc and when you get them back just hand finish them.I would also have them valve job them. I have seen some do well with ported heads and I have seen some heads flow worse after getting home ported!
