Default nasty tick in top end

Hey just wondering if anyone can help me i was driving home from the track and all of a sudden the motor started to make loud ticking sound on the way home coming from the top end i thought maybe a loose rocker so took the valve covers off and no such luck so i'm leading towards a dead lifter can the lifter just up colapse like that, or other thoughts on what it might be.

i pretty much had the same problem, tick started out of no where, changed the lifters and no more tick.

push down on your push rod and see if there is any compressing of the lifter
