I need to change 1 cam bearing on my ls1. Its the front one and I wonder how hard this is to do. Can I just pop the old bearing out and tap a new one in? I have never done this so I am unaware of what to do. Thanks guys!
It's not just a matter of pulling it out and putting in a new one. There is a special tool to install bearings if you do not put it in right there will be oiling issues. If that bearing is wore more than the others you many have other issues... maybe timing chain to tight. I would get it checked by machine shop. Had the same problem last year and the last cam bearing was trashed also. You may do alot of work for nothing but at least you will know.
