Default Aftermarket rod length?

im trying to rebuild my ls1 and i was looking at new rods through scoggin dickey but there is two differend rod lengths, a 6.125" and a 6.000", im not exactly sure what rod to use because i thoght the stock rod was a 6.098", also what kind of machining do i need to have done to get the rods to fit ?

You'll need new pistons with the correct compression height ("CH", the distance from the centerline of the pin to the top of the piston) to place the top of the piston where you want it. (zero deck or flush with the top of the deck, or a little below (in the hole) or maybe a little out of the hole)

If you use stock CH pistons and the 6.125 rods (vs 6.098) the tops of the pistons willbe .027 higher than stock. That may be a big problem. Your engine designer/builder will advise you as to where the piston should be.

You can use the 6.100" the stock rods are 6.098" the difference of .002" you could adjust this with head gaskets, If needed. But check the factory piston deck height to be shore.

It is not only a matter of deck height but pin location.
When choosing piostons use recomended rod length, most are built for 6.125 size.
