Default Synthetic Or Conventional

2000 Ls1, 80,000 Miles. I Don't Know What The Previous Owner Used But I Have Always Used Synthetic. I've Heard Of Problems Using Synthetic Too Late In The Game And People Have To Go Back To Conventional. Is There Just A Bunch Of B.s. Myths Out There? I Tried A Search But Its Taking Forever On My Computer.

Thanks I've Always Figured Its Not A Problem. I've Only Owned Used Vehicles And For What I Know, Was The Only One Using Synthetic.

mobil 1 is what the car had in it out the factory . i have always used synthetic on my ta anyways.
there are myths out there that people say once you use one you can not use the other but oil is oil . sure some dude might of blown his engine after an oil change but to blame it on a different brand of oil does not make a lot of sense .

try to do a search for a member by the name of PATMAN . he is the oil guru or at least he was cause i have not seen him in the postings but that dude knows oil .

i bought my z28 at 53000 give or take a few miles, as soon as i got it i put in penzoil platinum full synthetic 5w30, no problems, doesnt burn any, change around 3500 miles and the oil is still a light brown color. my sisters 2000 v6 camaro turns conventional 5w30 penzoil black in 3000 miles.

and for the record i had some engine work done on my car and my mechanic put in mobil 1 conventional 5w30 and i ran it over 600 miles then switched back to the penzoil synthetic, no beef what so ever

i ran castrol gtx 10w-30 on my 2000 z28 and had no problems of oil consumption or anything.. car ran perfect. i now have a 2002 z28 and running castrol syntec 5w-40 and still no problems, or oil consumption.. i dont think it matters as long as your keeping up with the maintenance you should be fine!
