LS6 Cam in a 5.3???

LS6 Cam in a 5.3??? Is this cam worth the swap? do i need a tune? it would come with springs and pushrods so is that all i need? motor is otherwise stock. the cam is from an 02 Z06 what kind of gains can i expect?
I am doing the exact same thing as you are. I have a bone stock 5.3 and I am installing a 02 LS6 cam(150 for cam, springs, and pushrods, could not pass it up!)
According to an engine dyno test performed by Will Handzel(author of Chevy LS1/LS6 V8's) the LS6 cam showed 11 ftlbs of torque, and 39 HP increase at the crank on a stock engine. Keep in mind, this engine had headers for the test, that will make a difference. The cam also made the HP increase at 5800 RPM, up from the baseline of 5200 rpm stock peak power.

I would put in the 2004 Z06 cam. I would put in the springs if you have time.
If you do that then you will be on par with a LS1 at least. The stock LS1 program will work fine but be a tad rich. You could plug in the stock LS1 computer with O2 sensors and never worry about it.
