Crank swap - will it work?

Crank swap - will it work? I've got a stock 6.0L truck crank sitting in my garage. A buddy wants to buy it for his LS1 rebuild in his f-body. Will the crank work? I'm thinking it will, but I've heard mention of it being too long or something.

Okay, I've discovered that the crank I have is part number 12552215. It is the 1999-2000 crank, with a flange of 1.250" thickness. The flange we need is 0.850" thick. Could a machine shop just turn that down to match?
I'm not certain if it can be machined to work, but crank kits with new bearings go for about $250. You also get your choice of cranks in this case. You can go with a car crank, which is lighter than a LQ4 crank.
