Default Excessive Preload

I've heard that Morel calls for approx .040 preload on their hyd. lifters. what would happen if I used a pushrod with .090-.100 preload? I've been trying to track down a problem with my set-up and was wondering if this could be causing my problems. The car runs OK but almost sounds like it has a burnt valve or something. Is it possible that the valves aren't fully seating? Any input is appreciated.

Loosen the rockers until you have your desired preload. A stock rocker is designed to have factory preload(.040") at 22 ft/lbs. Torque them to maybe 10 ftlbs and use loctite so they don't back out.

Or do it the right way. Sell your pushrods and get ones that are the correct size, which looks to be about .050" shorter than the ones you have now.

If you bottom out the lifter with to much preload because your pushrods are to long, you will hang the valves open. You need to get the correct pushrod length so you have the correct preload.
