Default Thermostat fit trouble

I have gone to all the local parts stores and tried to buy a lower temp thermostat for my car but non will fit. The guids on the stats are to big to slide into the hole. My car is a 2000 ls1 vette. Did they change the thermostat at all? I was wanting a 180* any suggestions? I do know how to install a thermostat too. I have changed several in my lifetime on many different vehicles including ls1 and lt1's. I cant seem to find an aftermarket that is bolt on though. whats the deal!

i tried to change the thermo on my 02 LS1 Z28, come to find out that year GM put 2 different styled water pumps in the cars. 1st one being the kind you can replace just the thermo, 2nd kind being where the water pump and thermo are one piece and must be replaced as a whole. Needless to say i just left it be F That. look into what you have, call GM dealership or go down there if needed

Problem solved. I went to autozone and bought a thermostat for a newer model vette. 03-04 and popped mine out and reused my old gasket to get it to fit snug. Had to put the corners in a vice to make it slide in though. Fits nicely.
