Is there a certain way the lifters have to go back in?

Default Is there a certain way the lifters have to go back in?

i took all my lifters out to check them and im not sure if there is a certain way they go back in. cus i noticed there was a little notch in the lifter whether that had to be pointing up or down.

the roller just has to roll with the cam lobe. Nothing special about them.

Yep, just put them in roller first & then look at your lifter trays on the end that goes down in the lifter hole. I'm almost 100% sure the flat sides need to be runnin from front to back like this:

If they aren't just rotate them until they are or your lifter tray won't seat on the lifters correctly & will stick up out of the block. It's ok to just drop them in & then rotate them correctly, thats what I did.

Lifters go into trays first in the same hole they came out of, don't mix them up. Carefully inspect for dirt in each lifter tray area. Insert tray and carefully feed lifters into position. Use Redline Assembly Lube, this will help a lot. If you don't have that, oil them good prior to installation. Put bolt in and tighten to correct torque value (106 lb-in)

Well in theory that works, but I'll promise you not all the lifters are gonna stay in the trays when you turn them over to install them. At least mine didn't. And gettin them back into the exact hole they came from isn't gonna matter. Definetly let them sit in oil for at least a hour or so before throwin them in.

I don't think my caddy lifters even had the holes in them, because I had wondered about this also.

Yes they have holes, they are mandatory for bleeding. On a stock motor you'll find them staggered, like not all in same direction. It is just a matter of preference.

My stock ones came out with all the holes facing towards the front. So that is how I put my Comp replacements back in.

That's why I spent $20 on new trays, they will hold the lifter better and if a cam change comes later I won't need to struggle with them.

Theyre clocked at random fromthe factory. Most people prefer to face the oil galley. I find that putting them in the tray first then the block is easiest.

I just put a set of new GM lifters in my car. The oil holes on them could either face to the front or rear of the block, not up or down.

I put all my oil holes facing the rear of the block, since the oil flow comes from the rear of the block forward. I don't think it matter though.

does anyone know where to find a complete writeup on how to remove and install lifters. i think one or more of mine is bad and i wanna check them.

Comp says it doesn't matter. Lifter trays are cheap, but why get new ones unless you plan to use the russian roulette methond on the next cam swap. If the lifters and trays are oil soaked(which they should be during reassembly) the lifters stay in the trays. High mileage would probably cause the tray to wear more.
