Heads and Cam
Heads and Cam Hey Guys Im really wantin to pump out more power from the T/A and thinking about getting heads and cam. What would you all suggest doing??
I want a pretty mild cam that will have a nice lope to it when idlein. What are some specs I should look for? I want to try and be pushing 350-400 at the wheels once I get done. Any Idea's??
I have heard of some people going with the 5.3 heads on the new Vortec motors?? Why?? What is the best set of heads for a buget car??
What all else should I be looking into besides the heads and cam?? Keep in mind that im still paying off the car but still have some money to play with. I want a winter project! haha

For the LS-series engines the 5.3 heads offer finished intake and exhaust port that is smaller than LS6 CNC'd heads for a lower rpm, more torquey engine disposition. The combustion chamber is smaller as well, contributing to a higher static compression ratio. CNC'd GM castings can start at around $1000. also, check out the non-GM castings from AFR, Edelbrock, TFS, Dart, etc.... that add efficiency.
Cam options for lopey idle would include a 114 or less lobe separation angle. Smaller street cams would have a 112 or less. A duration of greater than 230 degrees with an LSA of 112 would necessitate advanced tuning.
Other parts to consider are: head bolts, timing set, springs, pushrods, gasket set, and maybe an oil pump and tuning software
For this level, possible additions are clutch, fuel pump, and fuel injectors

Well I just put a brand new LS7 clutch kit in it, so I should be good there.
So are the 5.3 heads a good idea to go with? What about the 6.0 heads?? Why do people use them for?? See Im really new to these LS engines and dont have a clue on how to kick out some power at a decent price. Anything helps.
