Default How do I protect my engine while apart

I started working on my car a few months back but ran into some real life stuff. I installed new heads and an new tranny but cant get to the rest for a while. What should I do to protect the motor in the meantime. I rotate the motor a bit every week or so. Any ideas?

Wd40 and penetrating oil. They will displace moisture and keep corrosion off. when you need to reassemble clean up with a rag with trans fluid and some mineral spirits.

cut up a garbage bag or of the like and make urself a motor cover out of plastic if you don't have a plastic bag that might fit over the entire block...i prefer to cover it with plastic to prevent any particles coming in.

I'm in the same boat as the poster what about the lifters? I know it's best to soak them in oil over night before install, but what about the time they are going to be sitting in an engine thats not getting run. Won't the oil just drip back down to the pan?

FWIW, I have heard for years that WD 40 will keep the rings from seating properly, so not good to wipe down cylinder walls of a new or rebuilt engine with it.

what stage is your motor in? If the heads are off I'd keep rubbing the cylinders down with some oil now and then. Definately tape off any openings and put some type of bag or tarp over it.
