Default whats the difference between a 99 block and an 01-02 block?

I might be getting a 99 LS1 engine and plan on modding it for my RX7 and was wondering how the block itself is different. I will be changing the heads/intake cam..pretty much everything up top including the rod bolts...just wondering how good the bottom end is.

I've read that the oiling system is worse on the older blocks(98-00), that and the cylinders aren't as thick, with that being said I swapped a 98 block/crank i had laying around into my 01. I don't think the worse oiling setup is anything that'll kill a motor.

Your thinking of the 98 specific block..I meant 99-00 and 01-02 they revised the cyl. walls and oiling on the 99 and up block.

01+ have slightly thicker sleeves, machined windows cast into the block at the bottom of the cylinders, and a few other things...

only ls6 blocks had the windows for "bay-to-bay" breathing.

there walls were no thicker from 99-02, only the 98 block was thin and had a slightly less effective oiling system. Theres nothing different from 99-02 period unless its the ls6 block and even it offers no hp gain. Its actually weaker because its less solid material anyhow.
