Default OBD code help

Hey all!

2000 TA...6sp...genreally doing well at 70k miles...

However, recently have gotten intermittent CHEKC ENG lite...stays on for a day or three then goes away..then comes back a few days later.

Got a code scanner that reports the following code

DTC P0405 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Position Sensor Circuit Low Voltage

So what do i do with that? Does that refer to the EGR valve? is there s sensor seperate from the valve?

Is this

a) something i can easily fix on car while in street and

B) whether i do it or the shop...is it an expensive pollution contorl thingy that will cost hundreds of bucks?

Thanx!

Id pull the electrical connector off the valve and clean it off, it may just be dirty or something. Then run to autozone and have them clear the code, it might stay away then.

Bypass the EGR using a block off plate. Who want's soot coating the intake along with the oil mist from the PCV system anyway. Doesn't that sound like a good combination to coat your intake runners and ports on the heads with? I don't know what soot mixed with oil mist looks like after 50,000 miles be I'm sure it ain't a pretty picture. I bypassed both the EGR and PCV years ago. No DTCs and the inside of the intake is as clean as the Board of Health.
