DEX COOL no good??
If you properly maintain your cooling system you will be fine with dex cool. Yes it does have some build up issues but with proper maintenance its fine. I believe its to be flushed every 5 years or 50K miles, whichever comes first.

I'm glad to see there are some people piping up that actually know what the hell they are talking about instead of spreading these bullshit internet rumors about Dexcool. I have never had a single problem with Dexcool except for at first when I never checked the coolant level, and I got some gunk on the coolant reservoir dipstick because I had a small leak caused by a botched TB bypass install. It was completely my fault, and I've never had a problem since I actually started checking everything regularly.

I serviced my cooling system on the Z last year. Just drained the radiator, and pulled both plugs on the engine block. Put Dex-Cool back in it, mixed 50/50 with distilled water. Also before I filled the radiator up, I shined a flashlight down the radiator and it looked clean as a whistle. No problems noted what so ever. I think it's good stuff. I agree, the people having issues probably aren't maintaining there cooling systems.

Dex Cool Too... Over the summer a friend changed my OEM stat to HP 160 and we flushed old coolant to the Dex Cool. Previous to the stat change we installed the LS1 e-fans.
I believe the internet b.s. is all due to irresponsible owners. This was the first time that I have thoroughly flushed my system @ 100k mi (approx). The longest part of the flush is the burp...took forever to relieve the pressure. For the last few months I've been running a consistant 190 degrees, and no problems of overheating.

Could it be possible that the people that have the corroded head gaskets and the red muddy substance did not have a 50/50 water to coolant mixture? maybe more coolant than distilled water?
You'd probably find more that just don't use distilled water...I've watched guys just pull a hose from their back yard and start filling the radiator.

Do not use distilled water I suggest using purified water via the reverse osmosis process. Distilled water has a PH (Potential Hydrogen) level that's relatively acidic (around 4.5-5). I'm no rocket scientist but acid and aluminum don't mix. Most well water is a no-no either due to the high Iron or mineral content.

I have an 02 z with bout 80k and the system is clean as can be rad, block eveything. The only thing is that the rad cap build up but other than that its the cleanest i have ever seen it. btw, my block is on an engine stand

I have the Dex cool in my '02 Silverado, and when properly maintained there shouldn't be any problems.
Yes I've read and hear many of the same responses on the Dex Cool, and I was concerned too, but now that I have it and haven't seen any problems I've put that concern aside.
And I believe that going with the purified water may be the better way to go. Stay away from well/pump drawn water there maybe sediment and something you don't want to deal with.
