Default Cams?

Ok so whats the general consensus on camshafts for LS1s?

If I was to just put in a cam on a stock LS1 what would be the best bang for the buck and still run with no problems? Tuning, done of course.

I have heard many good things about the new MTI cam and the G5X2.

Just wondering who has changed cams and what they thought.

With the stock manifolds, I wouldn't expect too much punch. Open it up with some headers first and then...bam! The power will hit harder. As for which one, there are some questions: Is emissions important? Do you want the power up high or lower with more low end torque? Street car or race setup? Want lope or not? Nowadays, the possibilities are limitless. Depends on what you want. I bought a C1 from MTI. Nice cam, good lope, not too much surge and good grunt down low. I like the way it drives around town. Car dynoed ~365 RWHP with an LS6 intake.

Headers will are on the to do list. Currently debating between Kooks and DynaTech, both look like a very good setup.


Sound, doesn't really matter as long as it doesn't have to idle at 1500 to stay running. Emissions, again not that much of a consern as they do not check around here, yet.

I did some looking around last night and there are some really wicked setups as far as cams go and it is simply amazing the amount of power that can be had with just a simple cam change. One thing that I did not find however was durability of parts, i.e. springs, and valvetrain related parts.
