How compatibly are the ls1, ls2 blocks
How compatible are the ls1, ls2 blocks Im debating between a 383, a 402 or the 408. My block cracked so i'd like to combine my ls1 with one of those.
Everything is fairly similar with the 383 since its an ls6 block.
But if i upped to the 402 or 408, what in addition to the shortblock would i have to buy to make it work? What couldnt i swap over?

Of course, first thing comes to mind... knock sensors are different. I went with an iron 6.0 block for my 408 build... Already going in the a light car with a turbo, why worry about the additional weight of iron? Guess that's just me.
I went from a LS1 to a LS2 the only thing you will need to change is front timing cover because of the cam sensor, valley cover because of there's no knock sensors and the oil sending unit is mounted on the LS2 cover instead it the rear of the block and you will need to move your knock sensors to the side of the block near the front of the motor mounts, you will haft to tap the holes for it. some will say you will need to tap a hole for the side alternator support bracket but mine was all ready tap from the factory and the head bolts are different there all the same length ,you will need a LS2 timing chain to , Thats all i can think of right now , Hope this helps
