When Claying to check P/V......

When Claying to check P/V...... I did a search and it seems that you need to put 1/2 inch of clay on each piston and that you need around .080 of clearence to be safe. When measuring this what type of tool do you have to use just a standard tape measure and look for a little less than a 10th of on inch? Also I read that you need a lighter spring when setting the rockers, where would you get this from ? I want to try and tighten up my motor as much as possible with yella terras, stiffer timing chain etc when I do my head/cam swap and I just want to take all the precautions I can.

Re: When Claying to check P/V...... You are going to need a dial caliper to measure it. Just the clay in half once your are done and measure. A tape measure isn't going to work. lol
