Rebuild question
First off I have a 03 zo6 vette. I am interested in asking a few questions. I am rebuilding my engine that only had 20000 miles on it before one of the bad design GM lifters broke (I am replacing it with the better enclosed GM lifter) . Now I have already started porting my heads and radiusing my valves and matching my ports on my intake and exhaust, normal engine work. I also machined out my throttle body on the lathe.I also have started balancing my rotating mass except my crank and flywheel ,a engine machine shop freind will do that I dont have the equipment at my home machine shop to do that the rest of the machine work is easy. I am not looking for insane power. The car already had a hot cam. All I want is to refine and improve were I still have a reliable long lasting daily driver to romp on every now and then. I already CNCed a bottom end girdle out of some billet 4140 1/8" plate even though thats over kill I know. I have full CAD and CAM capabilities at home so I am not limited by lack of tooling. Thats were I stand gentlemen any advice
( besides.... get a Ls7 z06
)Questions:
1) I have been told to change my rod bolts to aftermarket? What kind and what is a reasonable price?
2) What porting cleaning and grinding mods can be done to the block to help oil flow and lubrication?
3) What oil pump mods can be made? I know about the spacer on the spring (but how thick of a spacer)? Also were do you port the oil pump?
4) I also have been told to beef up my timing chain. But what kind; double, single roller or just the chain and not the sprockets? And if after market what brand and what is a reasonable price.
5) Are the factory rings good enough if not what brand would last longer and why? Also my rings are fine. so should I just clean them and the groves and put them back without honing sense they are already seated
Any Help would be greatly appriciated
Dave
You can port the stock oil pump. You port the part that the oil goes into and leaves through.
Just run an LS2 timing chain, no need for anything more.
