Default Heads and Cam questions?

My friend has a 6-speed 99 Z28 and he wants to do heads and cam on his car. He can get a set of cnc ported LS6 heads for $1100 from Pace Performance and he was thinking about the G5-X2 cam to go with this would this be a good combo? Is there any good (low price) heads out there that would be a better choice? Is the G5-X2 cam a good one? Is it a good street/strip cam or track mainly?

Are those LS6 heads milled? If so then the piston to valve clearance might not be adequate.

Not that I know of. What's the max lift you can run without having piston to valve clearance problems?

That depends on the duration and advance as well, not just lift.

TEA 5.3 Stage 2 heads are $1470 and flow a lot better than the ZO6 heads. ZO6 heads flow 260cfm intake while the TEA 5.3 flows over 300cfm and the come complete with springs and valves. The Z06 have more potential if ported but your looking a an additional $1500-$2000

That price for a SET of LS6 heads? Is he sure that's not price per? Also, is there a core charge? Usually, that's close to a grand in itself. Spend the $$$ wisely. They are good heads but you may get comparable flow from others for less loot.

Stock Ls6 heads flow 270cfm on my bench. My stock valved LS1/5.3/6.0 heads flow 300+. I would get some ported LS1/5.3 heads. The LS6 heads flow marginally better once ported, but cost twice as much.

The best budget heads are stock valved heads. Why pay hundreds more for a few cfm and just gain valvetrain weight? I've gone 10.82 on my Stage I heads. If you're interested in what I have to offer, drop me an email.
