241 vs 853 heads flow numbers
ok we just got a rebuilt ls1 engine delivered at work today. when i opened it and looked at it, it has a 853 head on one side and a 241 head on the other side. i looked it up and mechanically they are the same, combustion chamber is the same, intake runner and exhaust is the same. but are the flow numbers on the heads themselves the same? i didnt think it would be that big of a difference....anybody know?

If I just bought a rebuilt motor with two different heads, I would send it back. Only because they apparently don't pay attention to detail. However, everyone makes mistakes. At least make them correct the problem. They are close but remember, they are different castings. Something about them is different. Would it hurt to run it like that? Probably not. Will it cause problems down the road? Who knows. I would want peace of mind and make them correct it.

An LS1 head is an LS1 head. Only difference in the casting numbers is the way they were cast. The 241's used better casting methods that produced smoother ports in comparison to the 98 heads that were not as smooth, but the same port. It wont make a difference if you get them ported down the road.
