98 WS6 w/129k on it...... worth modding?
98 WS6 w/129k on it...... worth modding? I have just purchased a 98 TA six speed. The car has 129k on it, but doesn't smoke or use any oil. Car pulls hard and the tranny/clutch seem to be perfoming well too. I have only purchased a short throw to make the street racing a little more fun, but my question is it worth looking into a h/c package for the car or just start building the next step for when the inevidable happens? If so is the 6.0L one of the better platforms to start from?
I'd start with bolt ons and put a good clutch in there. Don't go all out until you can afford it. Things change and you never know what's going to happen. I was planning a forged 347 for mine and already had the heads and pistons. Then it blew and took out the block.
i got a 165k on my stock short block, i hit it with wet150shot all the time, and i just had a head cam swap at 165K, everything looked nice and smooth, cylinder walls were fine, coudlnt really see the rings, but i have given mine hell, and it is doing well so far. i got it at 100k and modded it up to full bolt on by 125k and have sprayed countless bottles through it. i hate to jinx myself, but i think these engine are pretty stout.

Miles done mean as much as how they were put on. Ive seen plenty of beat 40k mile cars and pristine 120k cars. Its all how they were taken care of.
Just expect the driveline to fail at some point and set money aside for that.

Caveat: Just do it right.
As suggested, do bolt ons first. Always make sure you have an extra grand or two set aside for WHEN the driveline goes. Otherwise, do the boltons - headers, exhaust, lid, SHOCKS, brakes, intake (do a FAST - buy once), get a tune. Make sure all your mods work with an engine upgrade. If this car is your DD, be extra cautious. Make the car safer and more controllable (did I mention shocks?). After you do all that and she still runs well with no major issues, THEN do some AFR heads - as they will xfer to a bigger cube motor well. Holding off on the cam will just buy you more engine/spring life. Just know that if you run the car hard, the rear's going to go, and be ready.
