Default Crank bolt stuck...suggestions?

So during my supposedly quick cam install, I forgot that my crank pinning bolt was longer than the factory one. Needless to say, the bolt is pretty much welded to the crank at this point.

I've got a 700 ft/lbs impact gun trying to remove the stuck bolt. I can move the bolt about 1/4 inch forward and back, but that's about it. Pretty sure I jacked up the crank threads, but the task at hand is how to remove the bolt.

Suggestions on getting the bolt out? I'd prefer not to cut off the head and drill at this point....give me a few days.

damn dude, you really fucked up there. Put the trans in 4th if you're manual and use a breaker bar and work it back and forth VERY SLOWLY, and yes, lots of lube.

If it still moves some there is a glimmer of hope. You need to get some lubricant in there and work it slowly. Not sure the threads will survive, but if you get it out you can always install a heli-coil. Soak it good with something like PB Blaster for a day if you can wait, then start working it slow. If you gall the threads, you will never get it apart so lubricant is key.

You can rethread the crank though...a friend had to do that after he stripped the threads in his crank.

Well I followed the suggestions posted on the board and finally got the biatch off tonight. Basically luber 'er up with LOTS of PB and slowly worked it back/forth with the impact.

Going to go to NAPA and try to get a tap for it tomorrow. Hopefully the threads will clean up. If not, it looks like I will be learning how to install a heli-coil next. Joy

Glad you got it out.

Since the heli-coil will require a different tap, examine what you have very closely. Depending on the tap price it might be better to move straight to a heli-coil at this point.
