5x30 or 10w30 or other?
I run amsoil 10w-30. I seen a synthetic oil test somewhere online don't remember where but I know royal purple come in last and M1 was 3rd of 5 and amsoil come in first. I used to run royal purple too. The amsoil is good for 25,000 miles just change the filter and add a quart every 5. I will try to find that article so it doesn't seem like I'm talking out of my ****.
there have been TONS of threads about this topic, just search and you will find your answer. M1's 30 weight is at the 'bottom of the barrel' compared to other 30 weight oils. So, instead of running M1 0w30 and being closer to a 20 weight oil, I (and alot of other people) run M1's Euro formula, which is a 0w40 oil and although its a 40 weight, its closer to a better 30 weight oils.

my point is that they are all good choices and one will not notice a difference in power or reliablility between any of them. you're right that I don't care about microscopic tests when they don't make a difference on a macroscopic level. with today's oil tech you really can't go wrong. so oil threads and people stressing about what oil to use are pretty silly, imo. now, if you "care" about oil then by all means talk all about it. won't make a difference though.
