Default ported head question

if i were to pull the ls6 heads off of my car, have them ported and polished(no milling or decking) would i be able to run the car for a little while without having a retune?

I just figure that since im not changing the compression ratio that it should be ok, but it would it change the air/fuel ratio?

i just live about 6 hours away from my tuner and while my tranny gets rebuilt i figure it would be the perfect time to have the heads ported...but i wont have an opportunity to head to the tuner for about 2-4 weeks...

I don't think you would have a problem, since i dove my car about 220 miles to get to my tuner, and i had the heads ported w/.04 cometic, G5x3 cam installed and LG headers at the same time and the car ran fine but bucked at low rpms, under 1500. I think the bucking was due to the cam not the heads.

Porting the heads won't change the tune much more than a set of LT headers would. You'll be fine. Probably a bit lean.

As stated above the ECU should be able to compensate, it's when you add a cam and change valve events that you need to worry.
