Default L92 heads on LS1 block

I've read some posts about trying to get l92 on a LS1 block, all of the answers I read were negative with stock bore. I would like to know if you get relief cuts on the cilinder walls will it be possible to get l92 heads on without valve problems?

thanks

no go for ls1 stock bore
3.898 stock bore for 5.7 ls1
l92 heads require 4.00 in bore minimum
l92 heads are found on iron ly6 6.0 truck engines and 6.2 alloy truck engines
4.00 and 4.065 bore engines

It may be possible, but the valves would be so horribly shrouded it wouldn't be worth it. If you just want to be the coolest kid on the block with L92 heads on your stock LS1, by all means give it a shot, but don't get all upset when a bolt on cars walks all over that ***.

Completely counter productive, BUT something I wonder about is how much flow is lost if we reduced the intake size to 2.055 for instance

There had been rumors of small bore L92 stuff, which would be cool. I saw the prices for L92 which puts out awesome #'s and like 40% cheaper then AFR or TFS of the same small bore specs/quality.

It would sure be nice, but in reality one should just stroke/bore to a 402+ to make things work right. I'm personally going to try these sets of heads on a big cube. PRC claims some really, really awesome intake flow numbers that take a dump on the AFR 205's and keep going. Hope these will work well with the right cams.

I haven't read the article yet by HOT ROD has an article this month which says they put L92 heads on a 6.0 liter. I thought the L92 intake valve was to big for that bore.

i have L92 heads on my 6.0L and they work great, i built my 6.0L to the same specs that carcraft did a few months ago and they made 550hp, L92 heads need a minimum 4.00" bore and that is what the 6.0L bore is

Yes, very nice flow numbers.. don't forget though that the L92's have a 260cc intake runner vs the AFR's 205/225. Air Velocity plays an important role here too. And they do work very well with the right cams.. the cams are just specced very different than a typical LS cam you see here.

If you plan on running a big nitrous engine topped off with L92's, you could very well be looking at a split of 232/270+ because the exhaust flow ratio is so gimped.

Thanks to everyone who has replied, your answers were very helpfull and I asked this question because a friend of mine who is a mechanic told me he could do that, I know 4.00 bore is recommended but just wondered if possible in al aliminum block. My friend has done relief cuts on the cilinder walls but on iron blocks so that's why I asked the question, thanks to everyone.

Boosted, sorry but havent got any pics, I'll give a call to this guy any of these days and ask him if he's got any engine this way in this moment but really doubt it. I'll pm you in case I get some pics

I got this link from google, it is a valve relief cut on a cilinder wall, hope this could help you pal

If you have to use "relief cuts" on your cylinder walls aren't you asking for trouble on a high horsepower engine? The sleeves will end up being nearly paper thin. Once you bore the LS there isn't a ton of material left. When you get into the largest LS bore sizes there is no material left at all between the cylinders in the block and the sleeves have to be siamesed just to get the sleeves to fit. Imagine doing a cylinder wall relief cut on a LS7 or a 454 LS. So now you have to flycut the pistons and relief cut the cylinder walls. Why not just use the correct heads with the block(bore) you select and avoid all these problems in the first place?

Default Has anyone tried it

With all the members in these forums, is there no one with a stock ls1 and L92 heads around that could stick them on, put some putty on the piston and cylinder wall, rotate the engine with light tension valve springs, and see where this "contact" is or how close it comes to the wall?
I went to my local engine builder today, who has over 25 years experience and he cant see how a head would work on a 4.00 block and not a 3.900. Although he does not have too much experience with the very latest L92 heads, he said there was only .050" on each end, and reliefs could be cut at the top of the cylinder bores and using slightly larger bore cylinder head gaskets like they used to do on the 396 big blocks.
Why can't anyone prove this?
I hope I dont see another post here just saying, no, it can't be done.
PLEASE! Mock it up , measure and take digital pics, and verify why it cant be done, once and for all!

its been explained many times.

sounds like you and your engine builder got some research to do and prove.

if really need to use l92 heads, might as well get a 4.00 bore engine and run with it.
more ci, better breathing, uses up the available airflow more. i can go on.
